Should Your Website Have a Blog?

Yes, most business websites should have a blog, on one condition: it answers real customer questions, and you can keep publishing consistently. The reason has changed. Articles are now the pages Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity quote when they answer a question or recommend a business, and a site with no articles gives them nothing to cite. A blog abandoned after three posts reads as neglect, which is worse than no blog at all.

What does a blog do for a business website?

A blog gives your site a page for every question a customer asks, and pages are what search engines rank and quote. Your homepage can rank for your name and maybe your main service. It will never rank for "how much does a website cost in Malaysia", because it does not answer that question. An article can.

Each useful article is a doorway. Someone researching a problem finds your answer, and your business earns the introduction before any competitor is in the room.

Freshness helps too. An Ahrefs study of 17 million citations found AI assistants cite content that is 25.7% fresher than what classic search results carry (Ahrefs, July 2025). A site that publishes keeps giving engines new, current material to pick.

The audience for your articles now includes machines that answer on your behalf. As of February 2026, a Google AI Overview appeared on 59.73% of tracked searches (SE Ranking, February 2026), and those overviews are assembled from pages the engine trusts.

The same applies when someone asks ChatGPT to recommend a provider. Engines choose sources by criteria you can actually influence: clear answers, real facts, and pages structured so an answer can be lifted whole. That craft is answer engine optimization, and articles are where it happens.

This Digital Hub is our own version of the model: every article answers one question Malaysian business owners actually ask, and the article you are reading is one of them. That is a methodology statement, and it is also the honest disclosure of why we believe in the approach.

When is a blog the wrong move?

A blog is the wrong move when nobody owns it, because a visibly dead blog undermines trust instead of building it. A "latest news" page whose newest post is from 2023 tells every visitor, human or machine, that nobody is home. It is one of the trust signals readers check without thinking.

Mass-producing posts with AI is the other trap. Google's spam policies name scaled content abuse, publishing many pages that add no value, as a violation, whatever tool made them. We cover the policy in what scaled content abuse is, and the safe rule is simple: publish answers you can stand behind, at whatever pace you can sustain.

We've found that clients expect content to work fast and underestimate the timeline. A blog compounds the way SEO compounds: slowly at first, then usefully, which is exactly why the abandoned-blog pattern is so common.

What should you write instead of "blog posts"?

Write answers to the questions you already get asked, one question per page, with the answer in the first paragraph. That framing beats "blog" thinking, which drifts toward company news nobody searches for.

Traditional blog Question-led knowledge base
Starting point "What should we post this month?" Questions customers actually ask
Typical page News, events, opinion pieces One question answered completely
Search value Low, ages fast Compounds, stays findable
AI citation value Rarely quotable Built to be lifted whole

The raw material is free. Your inbox, your WhatsApp, and your sales calls already contain a year of article topics in the customers' own words.

Cost and comparison questions work hardest, because that is what buyers search before choosing anyone. Ours include prices, timelines, and the questions competitors avoid, and they earn their keep in inquiries that start half-convinced.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a business blog publish?

As often as you can sustain without dropping quality, and no faster. A steady article a month beats a burst of ten posts followed by silence, because the value compounds per useful page, not per week. Set the cadence from your real capacity, put a name on the responsibility, and treat consistency as the metric that matters.

Can AI write my blog posts?

Partly. Google's guidance says appropriate use of AI is not against its guidelines (Google, February 2023), and it rewards quality however content is produced. The catch: AI drafts need your facts, your prices, and your experience to say anything a hundred other sites cannot. Details in does AI content rank on Google.

Does a blog still help if nobody comments or shares?

Yes. Comments and shares were never the point for a business site. The point is being found and being quoted: each article targets a question, ranks or gets cited for it, and delivers a reader with that exact problem. An article can produce inquiries for years while showing zero visible engagement on the page itself.

Should my articles live on my domain or on Medium and LinkedIn?

On your domain, first and always. Articles build authority for whichever site hosts them, and posts on Medium or LinkedIn build those platforms' pages, not yours. Republish summaries there if your audience reads them, linking back to the full answer. Your own site is the asset you keep when any platform changes its rules.

How many articles does a website need?

There is no magic number; coverage of your customers' real questions is the target. A service business that fully answers its twenty most-asked buying questions holds more search surface than most competitors. Start with the questions that decide purchases, cost, timeline, and comparisons, then expand outward as capacity allows.

Turn your questions into pages

Storming Solutions builds websites and runs SEO, AEO, and GEO for Malaysian businesses from Kuala Lumpur. Question-led content is the engine of that work, including on our own site.

Our stance: a blog is not an obligation, and a site earning its keep without one is fine. But if your customers ask questions, unanswered ones are leads you are donating.
